CALGARY, AB: May 17, 2025 –
Foothills WFC and FC delivered commanding performances in League1 Alberta play on May 16, each securing emphatic victories over long-standing rivals, Edmonton Scottish. Final score for WFC was 4-0, with FC securing a 5-2 outcome.
In the women’s match, WFC’s shutout showcased their attacking depth and defensive strength. Goals came courtesy of Reese Kincaid, Ashlynn Walia, and a pair from Jayden Berg, while goalkeeper Sarah Bach was exceptional between the posts, preserving the clean sheet with several key stops.
Head Coach Lee Tucker praised his squad’s execution and work ethic: “After a positive performance last week, we challenged the group to be more ruthless in front of the goal, and they responded well. I’m pleased to see our young players showing well as they experience the next layers of our club’s pathway”.
For the FC men, the 5-2 win was more than just three points, it was redemption. In their last meeting, Scottish claimed the 2024 League1 Alberta Championship, but last night, Foothills re-established dominance over their Edmonton rivals.
After conceding an early goal in the 14th minute, Foothills responded with five goals in 11 minutes, with one each from veteran winger Charles Nana, Diego Reveco and Jamie Nicholson, and a pair from Robert Woodroffe-Brown. Their commanding 5-1 lead lasted until the 36th minute when Scottish were awarded and scored a penalty.
In the second half, Foothills established a more solid base to enable them to manage the game, with Hafiz Mahjor and Diego Reveco forming an excellent partnership in central midfield. A shout out to Miguel Mendoza, who stepped into the centre back role where he replaced the suspended Caden Rogozinski. Jamie Nicholson was outstanding throughout and posed an attacking threat for a dominant Foothills team.
Head Coach Connor Brady had this to say post-game. “I am really proud of the response from the lads after what was a challenging game last week versus a tough Blizzard group. We had a number of strong performances from players who have stepped up to fill the gap of suspended teammates. They gave an impactful, well-rounded performance, setting a high standard for our group’s work rate right from the get-go. Diego Reveco earned himself an opportunity with a great week of training. He did not disappoint, giving a dynamic performance, showing his ability on the ball, vision, and composure in possession. On the whole, it was a very positive team performance and a good showcase of what we’re building within our squad. It’s something to be excited about.”
League1 Alberta play continues for Foothills FC on May 20 with a match against Cavalry FC U21. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Shane Homes West Soccer Dome, 11014 Bearspaw Dam Rd NW. Tickets are available at the door.

In 2023 (League1 Alberta’s inaugural year), Foothills FC capped off a dominant season by finishing first in the regular standings and winning the championship final against St. Albert Impact. In 2024, FC delivered another strong campaign but fell just short of back-to-back titles, losing a hard-fought final to Edmonton Scottish. Despite the setback, the team’s resilience, adaptability, and commitment to excellence stood out. Player development and team cohesion continue to advance, with the club maintaining a sharp focus on the growth of both athletes and coaches, laying a strong foundation for an exciting 2025 season. The Foothills FC League1 Alberta team is coached by Connor Brady.
Foothills WFC competed in League1 Alberta in 2023 and 2024 as a development team for the Club’s Pro-Am program, which participated in the United Women’s Soccer League. During this time, our primary focus was on building our athletes’ skills and preparing them for higher levels of competition. Now, as we embrace new opportunities through the Northern Super League (NSL), we are setting our sights on dominating League1 Alberta in 2025. Our athletes are eager to showcase their growth, and we anticipate a strong season, fueled by ambition, talent, and preparation. The Foothills WFC League1 Alberta team is coached by Lee Tucker.
