RENO, NV – Foothills WFC had a fantastic start to its first road trip with a 5-0 win against the Reno Vikings. Despite the impressive outcome, the very defensive Reno Vikings managed to hold Foothills WFC to 0-0 at halftime. An early penalty 10 minutes into the second half was quickly converted by Andersen Williams, opening the game up and letting Foothills WFC establish dominance across the field.
Continued pressure and forward-thinking play led to the team’s second goal of the game when Georgia Wilson executed a nice curled shot from the edge of the box. Despite the Viking’s best effort to limit the damage, a wonder strike from Lara Kazandjian in the 83rd minute set up a double from Mya Jones to cap off a comfortable but well-worked result at the foot of the Sierra Nevadas.
Opening goal scorer, Andersen Williams, shared post-match commentary highlighting, “It was a good day because we got the job done,” which echoed the sentiments of the squad as they recover and turn their attention to FC Arizona and continue their first road trip of the season.
Tune in Saturday, June 3rd, at 8:00 pm PT as we take on FC Arizona. More details about the game here.

This summer, Foothills begins the season as the reigning UWS Western Conference Champions. Our roster includes past and present Foothills players and top athletes from USports and NCAA. We also have several players on the team who have represented Canada at various levels as well as international players. The team won the Western Conference Championship in 2018, 2019, and 2022 and was voted UWS franchise of the year in 2019.
The Foothills women advanced to the UWS National finals twice. The first time was in 2019 when we hosted the National Championship in Calgary in front of 1,500 fans at Mount Royal University. The final was against Los Angeles Galaxy Soccer Club, which edged them out in a close final 1-0, with the winning goal coming from current Olympique Lyonnais and USA star Catarina Macario.
2022 was a record-breaking season, with the team winning all its conference games and entering the National Championship with a 100% (10-0-0) winning record. After a dominant 4-1 win in the semi-final, the team came up against the very strong Chicago Mustangs, who came out on top of a close game, winning 2-1.
About United Women’s Soccer (UWS) League
UWS is a national pro-am league composed of professionally operated clubs within the United States and Canada. UWS provides high-level competition for college players, aspiring and former professionals, and international stars. The overarching goal of this league is to achieve equality of opportunity for women’s soccer. In a time when there are several professional and amateur leagues for men’s soccer across North America, a huge gap exists between the college and professional ranks on the women’s side. UWS fills that gap by providing a pathway to pro for the amateur player.
