Foothills League1 Alberta Teams Take on Calgary Blizzard May 28 at Broadview Park

CALGARY, AB: May 24, 2024 –

Calgary Foothills Men’s (FC) and Women’s (WFC) League1 Alberta teams host a doubleheader on Tuesday, May 28, against Calgary Blizzard (Blizzard) at Broadview Park.

WFC kicks off at 5:30 p.m. against the always-tough Blizzard women. Head Coach Colin Mackay says, “Calgary Blizzard is the current defending League1 Alberta Champions. They have a long history of success on the women’s side, a deep alumni group, and a strong academy program. Winning this game is crucial for us to turn around the start of our season.”

Layla Tarraf delivered an outstanding performance for WFC in last week’s game against St. Albert, showcasing her exceptional skills and leadership on the field. Her positivity on the ball was evident throughout the match, as she consistently maintained control and composure, allowing her team to build their play effectively. Tarraf created numerous dangerous chances, repeatedly utilizing her vision and precise passing to unlock the opposing defense. Beyond her technical abilities, Tarraf emerged as a key leader, raising the group’s standards with her determination and commitment. Her influence was felt in every aspect of the game, inspiring her teammates and setting a high bar for performance.

FC takes the field at 8:00 p.m. Forward Jack Hodnett will be on the pitch. Hodnett was born and raised in Telford, England, and honed his football skills through the academy ranks at Premier League Club Wolverhampton Wanderers. Hodnett was successful while at that club, signing a professional contract as well as representing his country at U16. “Playing for FC is an opportunity for me to explore a new environment, a new country, and a new style of play. I couldn’t turn it down,” Hodnett says. “I want to use my past experiences to help FC reach its goals.”

The May 28 matches will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Broadview Park, 2005 Broadview Rd NW, Calgary, Alberta. Tickets to the doubleheader will be available at the venue, or season tickets can be purchased here.
