A Tie and a Loss for Foothills Teams Against League1 Alberta’s Edmonton Scottish

CALGARY, AB: July 9, 2024 –

The Calgary Foothills Men (FC) tied the League1 Alberta leaders, Edmonton Scottish, 0-0 last Friday, while the Club’s Women’s team (WFC) was defeated 1-0 in another hard-fought battle.

WFC game time was 5:00 p.m. Despite another outstanding game by goalkeeper Sarah Bach, the team was unable to put the ball in the net. Head Coach Colin Mackay reflected post-game on his team’s performance. “We called up 9 Academy players tonight, and they played very well. Unfortunately, we made one mistake that Scottish jumped on and that was the difference in the game. We had a much better second half but still were unable to put the ball in the net. Sarah has only given up four goals in six games. She gives us a chance to win every match, and we have to start doing our job and get some points on the scoreboard.”

Bach plays for the Club’s APDL 2007 (formerly AYSL) team and holds the number 1 roster spot on the Foothills WFC League1 Alberta pro-am team. She is a longtime Foothills player who started with the Club in Grassroots. She continued her development with us, playing Tier 3 in younger age groups and now for our women’s pro-am team. Look for Bach to make a name for herself in women’s soccer as she continues to develop through the Foothills pathway.

FC kick-off was at 8:00. Despite playing well in the first half, like their female counterparts, they were unable to put the ball in the back of their opponent’s net. Head Coach Marc McLaren is focused on the team’s upcoming game on July 9. “We need to work on our final passes and converting to goals before Tuesday’s match against Calgary Blizzard. We need to be more ruthless and take more chances. You can’t win if you don’t score goals.”

Foothills will meet Calgary Blizzard at Broadview Park on July 9. WFC game time is 5:30 p.m. FC hit the pitch at 8:00 p.m.

In 2023, Foothills FC placed first in the regular season and then won the championship final against St. Albert Impact in front of a hometown crowd. The team’s outstanding results were especially sweet since it was the League’s inaugural season, and they are looking forward to a repeat performance in 2024. The Foothills FC League1 Alberta team is coached by Marc McLaren.

Foothills WFC ended the 2023 season with a 5-3-1 record. The team saw significant improvement as the year progressed, including winning its final regular-season game.
