Head Coach of Foothills FC Jay Wheeldon said, “It’s a great moment for Alberta Soccer. Bringing League 1 here is exciting. In terms of the game, we controlled large periods. It feels like a bit of a defeat; it’s not often you get 3 or 4 one-on-ones with the keeper. If you don’t finish your chances at this level, you get punished. But it’s the first game, and we’re already focused on next week.”
In the women’s game, Foothills WFC displayed an impressive performance against Edmonton Scottish United Soccer Club, scoring a remarkable ten goals to secure a convincing victory. The goals were scored by Emma Nicholson in the 14th minute, Layla Tarraf in the 30th minute, Ruth Adekugbe in the 36th minute, Grace Moore in the 60th and 64th minute, Tori Dungey in the 65th and 72nd minute, Jayden Berg in the 74th minute, Cheyanne Lehmann in the 80th minute and Sarah Kinzner in the 81st minute.
Foothills WFC dominated the game from the start and never looked back, displaying excellent teamwork and communication. The result was a testament to the team’s hard work and dedication, which bodes well for the rest of the season.
Captain of Foothills WFC Brooklyn Colvin states, “I think we came together as a team today, and we did well. We executed, which we’ve been working on in practice. Overall, it was a really good game.”
Both teams will look to build on their strong starts in their next matchups, with fans eagerly waiting to see more impressive performances from their respective teams.
