CALGARY, AB – The momentum keeps building for Calgary Foothills as both WFC and FC teams delivered strong performances Tuesday night at Broadview Park. WFC earned a disciplined 1-0 win, while FC turned on the firepower in a commanding 5-0 victory over Callies United. The results help solidify both teams’ positions in the League1 Alberta championship race.
WFC 1 – 0 Callies United
WFC secured their second straight 1-0 win with another composed performance at home. The lone goal came in the 33rd minute after forward pressure forced a defensive error from Callies, resulting in an own goal.
Foothills controlled large portions of the game with composed play and solid organization. Starting goalkeeper Leah Parsons, recently introduced into the squad, anchored a strong defensive effort and earned her first clean sheet of the season. The backline of Anneke Odinga, Amelia Russo, Myla Schneider, and Nadia Colon stayed disciplined throughout the game.
“It was a professional performance given that the game was delayed several times and then reduced to 80 minutes,” said Head Coach Lee Tucker. “The conditions were not easy but the team worked extremely hard and found a way to get the win. We now head to St. Albert on Saturday for another tough game against a very strong opponent, but the group is feeling good ahead of the challenge.”
The win keeps WFC among the front-runners in the League1 Alberta standings and continues a stretch of clean sheets and consistent team performances.
FC 5 – 0 Callies United
Foothills FC followed up WFC’s win with a dominant performance of their own. Charles Nana opened the scoring in the 6th minute, setting the tone early for what would become a clinical night in front of goal. Jamie Nicholson & Robert Woodruffe-Browne added a quick brace in the 17th and 23rd minutes, giving Foothills a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.
Despite making several substitutions in the second half, Foothills didn’t miss a beat. Senay Haile and Amadeo Chamoun added goals in the final 10 minutes to round out a 5-0 scoreline. The backline, anchored by the returning Hafiz Mahjor and Sam Diltz, remained organized and focused throughout to record a second straight clean sheet.
“The group were very focused on putting on a dominant performance in possession and it was great to see some of their hard work on the training ground transfer to the game,” said Head Coach Connor Brady. “We know we have a tough game coming up this weekend and we need to be well prepared for the challenge. St. Albert are always a well-organized team and the two clubs have always put on a great show on the pitch – we are looking forward to the game.”
It was a complete team effort, with contributions from across the lineup. The win moves FC even closer to the League1 Alberta playoff picture, continuing a strong resurgence as the second half of the season heats up.

About Foothills FC and WFC in League1 Alberta
League1 Alberta is the province of Alberta’s pro-am, standards-based senior league. It serves as a stepping stone between Alberta’s high-performance youth level, elite amateur, and professional levels. League1 Alberta aims to showcase and develop Canada’s future soccer stars, coaches, and match officials and is an official member of League1 Canada.
In 2023 (the League’s inaugural year), Foothills FC capped off a dominant season by finishing first in the regular standings and winning the championship final against St. Albert Impact. In 2024, FC delivered another strong campaign but fell just short of back-to-back titles, losing a hard-fought final to Edmonton Scottish. Despite the setback, the team’s resilience, adaptability, and commitment to excellence stood out. Player development and team cohesion continue to advance, with the club maintaining a sharp focus on the growth of both athletes and coaches, laying a strong foundation for an exciting 2025 season. The Foothills FC League1 Alberta team is coached by Connor Brady.
Foothills WFC competed in League1 Alberta in 2023 and 2024 as a development team for the Club’s Pro-Am program, which participated in the United Women’s Soccer League. During this time, our primary focus was on building our athletes’ skills and preparing them for higher levels of competition. Now, as we embrace new opportunities through the Northern Super League (NSL), we are setting our sights on dominating League1 Alberta in 2025. Our athletes are eager to showcase their growth, and we anticipate a strong season, fueled by ambition, talent, and preparation. The Foothills WFC League1 Alberta team is coached by Lee Tucker.
