CALGARY, AB: July 22, 2024 –
The Calgary Foothills Men (FC) secured a spot in the League1 Alberta Championship final by defeating Edmonton BTB (BTB) 7-1 at the Macron Performance Centre on July 19. FC will meet Edmonton Scottish (Scottish) on a “to be determined” date and time, looking to bring home a second Championship in as many years.
Head Coach Marc McLaren found the Friday night win bittersweet. “Obviously, I’m happy we are going to the final, but we would have liked to have won the regular season too. I know we are the best team in the league and have been unbeaten in our last eight games. Congratulations to Scottish on taking the top spot. I’m looking forward to playing them in the final.”
McLaren was pleased with how the
team performed against BTB. “Everyone played brilliantly tonight from end to end. We had a lot of goals with two each from Owen Antoniuk and Charles Nana, and one each from Skylar Rogers and Malik Sylvester. I have to give a special shout-out to Owen, though, as he not only scored two but assisted on the other four. He showed why he is the top scorer in the league with his performance tonight.
FC will meet Edmonton Scottish for the League1 Alberta Championship. The date, time, and confirmation of the location will be announced by the League soon.
ABOUT FOOTHILLS WFC IN LEAGUE1 ALBERTA
League1 Alberta is the province of Alberta’s pro-am, standards-based senior league. It serves as a stepping stone between Alberta’s high-performance youth level, elite amateur, and professional levels. League1 Alberta aims to showcase and develop Canada’s future soccer stars, coaches, and match officials. In 2024, League1 Alberta expanded to include additional teams and officially joined League1 Canada.
In 2023, Foothills FC placed first in the regular season and then won the championship final against St. Albert Impact in front of a hometown crowd.
