CALGARY, AB – After competitive outings against Calgary Blizzard Friday night, Foothills WFC and FC are back in action on Tuesday, June 10, as they face off against Calgary Villains at Broadview Park. With both squads eager to return to the win column, the matchups promise high energy and important league implications.
WFC vs. Calgary Villains – 5:00 p.m. Kickoff
WFC heads into Tuesday’s match in second place, trailing Blizzard by just one point following Friday’s narrow 1-0 defeat. A win over the fifth-place Villains would be a key step toward reclaiming the top of the League1 Alberta table.
“Villains are a new team in League1 this year, and we know they will be a competitive and organized side. We will have to be disciplined and professional in our approach,” said Head Coach Lee Tucker. “We have a very good defensive record so far, and we want to maintain that, but there will certainly be a focus on execution in the attacking areas of the field and staying composed when we create chances.”
Tuesday night promises to be another entertaining game. There are several former Foothills youth players on the Villains squad, including Jamie Verhun, Amy Runquist, Ella Tait as well as former WFC players Cheyenne Lehmann and Karlee Waldvogel.
Foothills will field a team packed full of quality with Wild Reserve players such as Isabel Monck, Myla Schneider, Anneke Odinga and more.
FC vs. Calgary Villains – 7:30 p.m. Kickoff
The men’s matchup pits two evenly matched teams, with FC and Calgary Villains neck and neck in the standings. After a hard-fought 2-1 loss to Calgary Blizzard, FC will be looking to regain momentum and capitalize on scoring opportunities. “This is a six-point game in many ways,” said Head Coach Connor Brady. “Villains are aggressive, well-drilled, and we’ll need to be smart in how we manage the match.”
Villains have a good mix of youth and experience, and a familiar face in their lineup. Massimo Megna was part of our Foothills PDL program, where he played alongside some current CPL stars, such as Bradley Kamdem (Cavalry FC) and Elijah Adekugbe (York United).
