CALGARY, AB: July 22, 2024 –
The Calgary Foothills Women’s League1 Alberta team (WFC) was defeated by Edmonton BTB 2-0 at the Macron Performance Centre last Friday night. The loss brings to an end WFC’s hopes for a championship; the team ends the year with a record of 5 wins, 5 losses, and 1 tie.
Head Coach Colin Mackay was disappointed after the July 19 game but optimistic about the future of his team in League1 Alberta. “Unfortunately, we went into the second half with a 2-goal deficit that we couldn’t come back from. We had a number of chances but couldn’t capitalize. I commend the players for their commitment and hard work all season. We have a high-quality squad, and this year delivered a lot of growth moments for them. And the Academy players who played up for us every game showed a lot of heart and soul. The experience of playing at this level will make all of them stronger players. It will fuel their soccer pathways and I fully expect you will see a number of them playing in the NSL and hopefully even for the Calgary WILD FC one day.”
Mackay is already looking forward to the 2025 season. “League1 Alberta is a very competitive league and getting stronger. We had a lot of ups and downs this season. We will take some time to reflect on those and evaluate our strengths and weaknesses as we plan for 2025.”
WFC would like to thank all its fans for their support all season, including the Wild Roses Supporters Group. We look forward to seeing you next year.
