Gilbert, AZ – Three big points away from home at FC Arizona complete Foothills WFC’s first road trip. After falling behind 1-0 in the opening minutes of the game, Foothills regained possession and responded to FC Arizona’s opener with a towering header off a corner from Isabel Monck.
Foothills WFC added a second through Georgia Wilson, just before halftime, after some key defensive actions from Abby Steen and Sarah Dilling to keep the momentum into the break. The evening was capped off by a brilliant long-distance effort by Monck, her second of the evening, to put Foothills up 3-1 and across the finish line.
“There’s pressure playing away from home. Going down early fueled us. We put in the work, and we were ruthless,” said Monck in her post-game interview. “We got the job done, 6 points this weekend.”
The successful two-game road trip featured a 5-0 win against the Reno Vikings and yesterday’s 3-1 win against FC Arizona. Foothills WFC is now up three wins this season with a perfect 3-0-0 record. Added to last year’s tally, that makes a thirteen-game win streak in regular season play.
The team is heading back to their home base, Calgary, Alberta, to host FC Arizona and Santa Clarita Blue Heat. Join the team Sunday, June 11th, 3:00 pm, at Broadview Park (2005 Broadview Rd NW) for their next home match. Tickets can be purchased here.
About Foothills WFC United Women’s Soccer
This summer, Foothills begins the season as the reigning UWS Western Conference Champions. Our roster includes past and present Foothills players and top athletes from USports and NCAA. We also have several players on the team who have represented Canada at various levels as well as international players. The team won the Western Conference Championship in 2018, 2019, and 2022 and was voted UWS franchise of the year in 2019.
The Foothills women advanced to the UWS National finals twice. The first time was in 2019 when we hosted the National Championship in Calgary in front of 1,500 fans at Mount Royal University. The final was against Los Angeles Galaxy Soccer Club, which edged them out in a close final 1-0, with the winning goal coming from current Olympique Lyonnais and USA star Catarina Macario.
2022 was a record-breaking season, with the team winning all its conference games and entering the National Championship with a 100% (10-0-0) winning record. After a dominant 4-1 win in the semi-final, the team came up against the very strong Chicago Mustangs, who came out on top of a close game, winning 2-1.
About United Women’s Soccer (UWS) League
UWS is a national pro-am league composed of professionally operated clubs within the United States and Canada. UWS provides high-level competition for college players, aspiring and former professionals, and international stars. The overarching goal of this league is to achieve equality of opportunity for women’s soccer. In a time when there are several professional and amateur leagues for men’s soccer across North America, a huge gap exists between the college and professional ranks on the women’s side. UWS fills that gap by providing a pathway to pro for the amateur player.
