July 5 Will Arguably Be the Most Exciting Game of the Season as Foothills Faces Edmonton Scottish in League1 Alberta

CALGARY, AB: July 3, 2024 –

Calgary Foothills Men’s (FC) and Women’s (WFC) team face some of League1 Alberta’s toughest competition on July 5 as they take on Edmonton Scottish (Scottish) at Calgary’s Broadview Park. Scottish sits at the top of the men’s standings and in fifth spot in the women’s. WFC game time is 5:00 p.m. FC hit the pitch at 8:00 p.m.

In WFC’s first meet up against Scottish on May 31, they brought home three points in a 4-2 win. Midfielder Grace Hannaford sank two goals. Foothills Academy players Avril Jamieson and Makenna Ford each scored a goal.

In WFC’s first meet-up against Scottish on May 31, they brought home three points in a 4-2 win. Midfielder Grace Hannaford sank two goals. Foothills Academy players Avril Jamieson and Makenna Ford each scored a goal.

“Our previous game versus Scottish was one of our stronger performances,” said Colin Mackay, the team’s Head Coach. “We know we are capable of competing for the top of this League, but we have to stay consistent and be more clinical with scoring goals. Defensively, we are one of the best teams in League1 Alberta. That proves how important scoring goals is. We have a stretch of three games coming up that will make or break our season. We will focus on one game at a time and hopefully start to climb in the standings table.”

FC’s May 31 game against Scottish was a tense 3-2 loss despite our team playing a very strong game. Both FC goals were scored by attacker Owen Antoniuk.

Head Coach Marc McLaren says, “Last time versus Scottish, we did everything right for 70 minutes, but a poor 20 minutes meant we came out on the wrong end of the result. Although disappointing, it turned out to be a turning point in our season and we’ve gone on to win 4 on the bounce. We will go into this game full of confidence and looking to put that game right despite the loss of Jack Hodnett who has returned to the UK before heading out to the Middle East for a professional opportunity. That’s a big loss for us but an opportunity for others to step up and fill the gap.”

The July 5 matches will begin at 5:00 p.m. at Broadview Park, 2005 Broadview Rd NW, Calgary, Alberta. Get your tickets here or at the gate.
