Markus Kaiser grew up in Calgary with a ball at his feet and a deep love for the game. From the grassroots pitches of Willow Ridge-Carburn SC to the structured environment of Calgary Foothills, he stood out as a midfielder with energy, vision, and leadership. By 2019, he was captaining Foothills’ U-17s to a national youth championship, a taste of success that made him hungry for more.
His pathway carried him to Vancouver in 2020, where he balanced student life with anchoring the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds midfield. Season after season, Markus became a steady presence in Canada West, praised for his work rate and tidy possession. In 2023, he was named a Canada West Second-Team All-Star and Academic All-Canadian, proving himself both on the pitch and in the classroom. His performances earned him Canada West’s Player of the Week honours that November.
In January 2022, Cavalry FC selected Markus 14th overall in the CPL–U SPORTS Draft. By May, he had signed his first U SPORTS Development Contract, a dream opportunity to represent his hometown in the Canadian Premier League. Markus logged six appearances that summer, gaining valuable first-team experience.
Those months with the Cavalry sharpened Markus’ understanding of what it took to compete with professionals, and although he returned to UBC at the end of the summer, he did so with a new edge to his game.
Markus never strayed far from his Calgary roots. Alongside his university career, he kept playing for Foothills in USL2 and in the League1 Alberta exhibition series, and by 2025 he was suiting up for Calgary Rangers SC in the newly launched League1 Alberta season. B
From national youth ID camps with Canada U-15s to university stardom, from a summer of professional football with Cavalry to the launch of League1 Alberta, Markus Kaiser is carving out opportunities, embracing every step, and carrying the game forward in his community.
