Oluwatofarati “Tofa” Fakunle was born in Lagos, Nigeria and raised in Calgary, Alberta. Tofa’s soccer journey spans playing, coaching, and leadership. From his youth days with Calgary Foothills , he quickly emerged as a dynamic winger with pace and vision; qualities that would define both his playing career and his approach to team-building.

Tofa’s collegiate years at the University of Northern British Columbia(2013–2017) saw him evolve into a leader on and off the field. As captain of the UNBC Timberwolves, he became the program’s all-time leader in goals, assists, points, shots, and game-winners. His influence extended beyond statistics: “High-character… focused… they’re currently reaping the rewards of their work ethic,” coach Niko Marcina said of him. In 2021, UNBC recognized his legacy with induction into its Wall of Honour.

Alongside his university career, Tofa starred for Calgary Foothills in the USL PDL (now USL League Two). Between 2015 and 2019, he became a mainstay and eventually captain, helping the club capture the 2018 PDL Championship. His 2019 campaign, where he scored six goals and added five assists in 13 matches, showcased his attacking flair and leadership.

That same year, Tofa made the leap to the professional ranks, signing with Cavalry FC in the Canadian Premier League. “Tofa is a signing that will add further character and quality… a dynamic attacking player, renowned for scoring or creating important goals,” said Cavalry head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. He debuted for Cavalry on August 28, 2019, and was part of the squad that secured both Spring and Fall regular-season titles in the league’s inaugural year.

While injuries and roster competition limited his time on the pitch, Tofa’s presence within Cavalry grew in other ways. He transitioned into football operations, becoming a vital link between the technical staff and front office. By 2022, he was promoted to Assistant General Manager, a role that has seen him represent Cavalry at international football summits, oversee academy development, and continue to mentor young players.

Tofa’s journey has been celebrated by teammates, coaches, and media alike. After his professional debut, he humbly thanked supporters: “Thank you to everyone who reached out to me yesterday… I appreciate your support.” His honesty and gratitude reflect the resilience that carried him from Foothills’ grassroots to the executive suite of one of Canada’s most ambitious clubs.
