Salisbury, England–born midfielder Owen Lindsay is Foothills’ Grassroots Technical Lead and Academy Coach. Owen’s role at Foothills is to develop the young players in our Grassroots program, ensuring they have fun while instilling a lifetime love of soccer, a long and happy relationship with Foothills, and supporting them wherever their soccer journey may lead.

Owen grew up playing youth football at The Wiltshire Regional Talent Centre in Salisbury, playing in the Junior Premier League before continuing his development with Bemerton Heath Harlequins, where he participated in Step 5 of the English football pyramid.  A technically clean, hard-working midfielder, he progressed through Foothills teams into the men’s program and now represents the Club in Calgary United Soccer Association competition, while also suiting up for the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference.

At Red Deer Polytechnic, Owen made an immediate impact in his first ACAC season, including recording an assist in the 2024 conference bronze medal match against SAIT. He helped the Kings to a league-winning season in the ACAC South Division for the first time in 15 years by assisting two goals in the final league game, after the Kings found themselves 2-0 down at halftime. The Kings went on to win the game 4-2.

As a coach, Owen brings the perspective of an active player who understands what it takes to bridge the gap from youth soccer to the college game. Owen strives to create an environment in sessions where players can show their creativity and express themselves at every opportunity. Throughout the season, players participate in engaging, fun sessions with Owen while also being mentally challenged to make quick and sometimes challenging decisions.

Whether he is breaking up play in midfield or setting up finishing drills at training, Owen’s goal is to help young players fall in love with the game, compete with confidence, and see a clear pathway from grassroots to higher levels.
