Halifax-born forward Saorla Miller‘s journey began with Halifax Dunbrack SC and Team Nova Scotia, where she captured a bronze medal at the 2017 Canada Summer Games. Those early experiences set the stage for a career defined by resilience and ambition.
In 2019, Saorla left the Maritimes for the University of Memphis, where she became a mainstay with the Tigers. Over five seasons, she played in 98 matches, scoring 24 goals and growing into one of the team’s leaders. Her final campaign in 2023 was her best: 12 goals, a place on the All-AAC First Team, and recognition as a United Soccer Coaches All-Region selection.
While still in school, Saorla sharpened her edge in summer play, joining Calgary Foothills WFC in 2022 in the UWS. That stint showcased her attacking instincts, as she scored key goals and attracted interest abroad.
That chance came in 2024, when she signed her first professional contract with Keflavík in Iceland’s top division. Over the season, she appeared in 19 matches, scoring three times and adjusting quickly to the demands of European football.
But it was back in Halifax where Saorla’s story came full circle. In January 2025, she became the first-ever homegrown signing for Halifax Tides FC in the brand-new Northern Super League. Managerial staff and supporters immediately embraced the move as symbolic of the league’s mission to grow Canadian women’s soccer through local pathways. Just months later, Saorla delivered on the pitch, scoring her first NSL goal in May 2025 against Vancouver Rise.
Those around her continue to praise her leadership and example. Calgary Foothills highlighted her 2022 impact, calling her a “key player.”
Between Saorla Miller’s academic accolades at Memphis, her adaptation in Iceland, and her milestone as the Tides’ first homegrown signee, she has established herself as both a trailblazer and an inspiration.
