Foothills WFC (UWS League)

Colin Mackay serves as Director of Operations at Calgary Foothills Soccer Club while continuing to coach within the club’s high-performance girls program. He balances operational leadership with hands-on involvement in player development, working closely with teams such as the APDL 2007 and 2010 Girls.

Toronto-born and Calgary-raised, Colin’s connection to Foothills spans more than three decades. He first joined the club as a U14 player in 1994 and began coaching with Foothills in 2002. Over that time, he has helped shape players, teams, and the club’s broader development environment while remaining closely connected to the Foothills pathway.

As a player, Colin competed at the collegiate level with the SAIT Trojans from 1999 to 2001 before moving to the University of Calgary Dinos for the 2001 and 2002 seasons while completing his Business Administration degree. His playing experience, combined with years of coaching within the Calgary soccer community, has helped shape a practical and player-centred approach to development.

+++Colin holds a Canada Soccer National B Licence and is NCCP certified, with additional training in soccer management and scouting. Since 2014 he has also served as an assistant coach with the Mount Royal University Cougars women’s soccer program, helping strengthen the connection between the Foothills academy environment and post secondary opportunities for players.+++

Colin’s coaching résumé is defined by winning teams built on a strong culture. He led the Foothills Athletics U18 girls to the 2009 Canadian U18 Club Championship, capping a remarkable rise from Tier 2 to national champions, and later served as a support coach for Foothills’ 2019 U15 Canadian national champions. Most recently, he has guided the APDL 2007 Girls to five league titles, two APDL provincial championships, an APDL Cup, and the inaugural 2024 PDP U17 National Championship – a season crowned by Alberta Soccer’s Golden Shoe “Team of the Year” award.

Colin also leads the Foothills APDL 2010 Girls, the only Canadian side invited to the 2025 Nike Premier Cup at Nike World Headquarters, where his team earned back-to-back wins over Chelsea FC and a hard-fought draw with VfL Wolfsburg on the global stage. Across his tenure in soccer operations and on the field, Foothills has seen more than 80 alumni progress to professional soccer, over 170 national team appearances, and more post-secondary players than any other club – achievements he attributes to a standards-driven culture that prioritizes accountability, resilience, and a genuine love of the game.
