Adding three more points to their perfect record this season, Foothills WFC (Foothills) defeated FC Arizona 2-0 last night, bringing them to a 4-0-0 record in the United Women’s Soccer League (UWS). Foothills spent much of the first half pushing the attack beginning with a dangerous free kick from Lara Kazandjian five minutes in and numerous threatening, offensive opportunities. Demonstrating complete control for the first 15 minutes of the game, Foothills got on the scoreboard in the 13th minute. Grace Stordy broke down the FC Arizona defense finding midfielder Momo Nakao for the first goal of the match. The offensive threat continued for the entire remainder of the half, with Foothills only allowing FC Arizona two chances in the first 45.
Foothills entered the second half up 1-0, but it didn’t stay that way for long. Grace Stordy, once again, broke down the back line and had a solid shot on goal, leading to a rebound that landed right in the feet of forward Andersen Williams, who swiftly converted to make it 2-0 Foothills. Despite many more attacking chances throughout the rest of the game, Foothills was unable to convert as FC Arizona goalkeeper Daryn Mosallaei stepped up and made solid saves from the continued attack. In her first UWS game, Foothills goalkeeper, Mabel Dunn, was able to pick up a clean sheet.
In a post-match interview, goal scorers Andersen Williams and Momo Nakao agreed that the group performed well, but there is still work to be done as the team was unable to capitalize on opportunities. Both were sure to give a nod to teammate Grace Stordy for “making them look good, as she put in a lot of hard work to create those scoring opportunities.”
Foothills next UWS home game will take place on Saturday, June 17, versus rival Santa Clarita Blue Heat. Both teams are currently undefeated in the regular season, so it is sure to be a heated match. Kickoff will be at 3:00 PM MDT at Broadview Park in Calgary, located at 2005 Broadview Rd NW. Tickets can be purchased here. A livestream of the game can be viewed here.

About United Women’s Soccer (UWS) League
UWS is a national pro-am league composed of professionally operated clubs within the United States and Canada. UWS provides high-level competition for college players, aspiring and former professionals, and international stars. The overarching goal of this league is to achieve equality of opportunity for women’s soccer. In a time when there are several professional and amateur leagues for men’s soccer across North America, a huge gap exists between the college and professional ranks on the women’s side. UWS fills that gap by providing a pathway to pro for the amateur player.
