Foothills Soccer Club Set for May 16 League1 Doubleheader Clash with Edmonton Scottish

CALGARY, AB: May 15, 2025 –

Calgary Foothills Men’s (FC) and Women’s (WFC) League1 Alberta teams return to the pitch on Friday, May 16 for a highly anticipated doubleheader against provincial rivals, Edmonton Scottish. The WFC and FC teams enter the matchday each with 1 win and 1 loss, neck and neck with Scottish women who have 1 win and 1 tie, and men with 1 loss and 1 tie.

WFC Ready to Build Momentum Against a Tough Opponent

Our WFC squad shows early promise. With reinforcements expected to join the roster in the coming weeks, Head Coach Lee Tucker is focused on using this game to solidify rhythm and team chemistry. He says, “We are excited to welcome back current Maine University player Olivia Grisdale and former U17 Canadian international Isabel Monck (Arizona State). Scottish has a rich history at the pro-am level in Alberta. Head Coach Dhee Govender, who also leads the NAIT women’s soccer program, has shaped Scottish into a dynamic, attack-minded side. Young talents like Maya Watchman and Jyla Erandio highlight their offensive strength, while the backline is anchored by former Foothills WFC UWS goalkeeper Lindsay Kitson, ensuring a well-organized defense.

FC Eyes Redemption in Rematch of 2024 Championship Final

FC will face a familiar foe in the Scottish, who edged them in the 2024 League1 Alberta championship final. Friday’s game marks their first rematch since that title bout, and emotions are expected to run high as FC looks to settle unfinished business.

Foothills FC Head Coach Connor Brady says the team is looking forward to getting on the road, spending some time together, and claiming 3 points against a very tough defending champion.

“We are a new group, and we have come together very well early on in the season. We have great leadership in players like Hafiz Mahjor, Max Bodurtha, and Sam Diltz, to name a few, who have found a way to use last week’s tough loss to galvanize the group and keep us heading in the right direction.”

“We look forward to showcasing the hard work the lads have put in. Watch for our attacking-minded players like Robert Woodroffe-Brown and Jamie Nicholson to have strong performances Friday, as they have looked especially sharp in training and are chomping at the bit to make an impact!”

Fans are encouraged to come out and support both teams in what promises to be a passionate, high-stakes evening of soccer. The May 16 matches will begin at 5:00 p.m. at the Edmonton Soccer Dome, 3126 Ewing Trail SW, Edmonton, Alberta.

About Foothills FC and WFC in League1 Alberta

League1 Alberta is the province of Alberta’s pro am, standards-based senior league. It serves as a stepping stone between Alberta’s high-performance youth level, elite amateur, and professional levels. League1 Alberta aims to showcase and develop Canada’s future soccer stars, coaches, and match officials. League1 Alberta is an official member of League1 Canada.

In 2023 (League1 Alberta’s inaugural year), Foothills FC capped off a dominant season by finishing first in the regular standings and winning the championship final against St. Albert Impact. In 2024, FC delivered another strong campaign but fell just short of back-to-back titles, losing a hard-fought final to Edmonton Scottish. Despite the setback, the team’s resilience, adaptability, and commitment to excellence stood out. Player development and team cohesion continue to advance, with the club maintaining a sharp focus on the growth of both athletes and coaches, laying a strong foundation for an exciting 2025 season. The Foothills FC League1 Alberta team is coached by Connor Brady.

Foothills WFC competed in League1 Alberta in 2023 and 2024 as a development team for the Club’s Pro-Am program, which participated in the United Women’s Soccer League. During this time, our primary focus was on building our athletes’ skills and preparing them for higher levels of competition. Now, as we embrace new opportunities through the Northern Super League (NSL), we are setting our sights on dominating League1 Alberta in 2025. Our athletes are eager to showcase their growth, and we anticipate a strong season, fueled by ambition, talent, and preparation. The Foothills WFC League1 Alberta team is coached by Lee Tucker.
