CALGARY, AB – July 21, 2025: Calgary Foothills WFC showed resilience and quality on Sunday afternoon, coming from behind to earn a 2-1 victory over Edmonton BTB in a critical League1 Alberta matchup at Jasper Place Bowl. With just a few games remaining in the regular season, the win keeps WFC at the top of the table and sets the stage for a high-stakes clash this Friday against third-place St. Albert Impact.
After a sluggish start, WFC conceded an early goal in the 6th minute. But they rebounded quickly when just two minutes later, standout forward Kendall Showers equalized with a composed finish off a well-worked team move down the flank.
The equalizer injected momentum into the WFC side, and they began to take control of the match. Grace Hannaford and Showers continued to cause problems for the BTB backline, creating several quality chances before the break. Despite the pressure, the game remained 1-1 heading into halftime.
WFC came out hard in the second, pressing high and dominating possession. Their persistence paid off in the 53rd minute when defender Myla Schneider delivered a perfectly timed through ball to Hannaford, who slotted home the go-ahead goal.
Captain Amelia Russo delivered a commanding performance in midfield, leading by example and consistently winning key duels throughout the match to help maintain control.
With the win, WFC remains at the top of the League1 Alberta standings and now shifts focus to its essential home clash this Friday against third-place St. Albert Impact.
It was a strong team effort today,” said Head Coach Lee Tucker. “We weren’t at our best to start, but the players showed character, especially in how quickly they responded and took control. We now have a few days to prepare for a very tough challenge against St. Albert where we know we will have to be at our best.”
