Born in Calgary in 2007, Keelyn Stewart has established herself as one of Canada’s most promising young midfielders. Her early development was shaped by grassroots soccer with Suburban FC in Halifax and Calgary Foothills, before she earned a place in the prestigious Whitecaps FC Girls Elite Academy in 2022. In Vancouver, she honed her technical and tactical skills, competing in League1 BC and winning the league title in 2023. That season culminated in an even bigger achievement: lifting the Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship, the first-ever national title for League1 women’s clubs in Canada.
Her rise also extended onto the international stage. Keelyn represented Canada at the 2022 CONCACAF Girls’ U-15 Championship, where she helped secure a silver medal and contributed an assist against Jamaica. But with Welsh heritage, her journey took another turn in 2024 when she was called into the Wales U19 national team, earning caps in European friendlies.
In 2024, she spent time with ASA High Performance in League1 Alberta (now Alberta Premier League) before realizing a childhood dream: signing her first professional contract with Calgary Wild FC ahead of the Northern Super League in 2025. The move was especially meaningful, as she joined the roster alongside her twin sister, Taegan. Speaking about their unique bond, Keelyn explained: “Some people say we read each other’s minds… we can just read where we’re going to play and the space to deliver a pass and play together.”
Off the field, Keelyn continues to give back to the game that helped shape her. Fresh off the Calgary Wild playing field in 2025, she and Taegan returned to Foothills during their off-season to coach players in the club’s U9 and U10 age groups. Reflecting on that experience, they shared: “We came back to coach because of how much support we’ve received from the coaches and staff at the club. We’re so happy to get involved to help inspire and encourage the next generation of players. Seeing the impact we have, as Wild players, and the kids’ passion for the game first-hand has been amazing, and we love helping grow the passion and love for the game here in Calgary.” Their commitment to inspiring young players is just one more example of the impact they are making in the local soccer community.
Keelyn and Taegan were also recently recognized by the Calgary Herald in its annual list of 20 Compelling Calgarians, further highlighting both their influence on and off the pitch.
Keelyn Stewart’s playing style reflects her versatility as a midfielder: comfortable in possession, creative in attack, and fearless in transition. At just 17, she has already built a résumé that includes domestic titles, dual national-team experiences, and a pro contract and has emerged as a symbol of Canadian player development’s bright future. She is poised to inspire the next generation of players.
