Generation Phase

The Foothills Generation Phase is for players aged U16 to Adult. This Phase is designed to enhance technical proficiency and tactical acumen and foster a sense of camaraderie as players transition into the higher levels of competition and adulthood.

In this Phase, we focus on continuous improvement, both on and off the field. We provide a platform for players to refine their skills, develop a deep understanding of the game, and embrace the values of sportsmanship and teamwork.

Transitioning to Post-Secondary:

The Foothills Generation Phase plays a vital role in facilitating the transition of players to post-secondary. Foothills athletes’ accomplishments are impressive. 150+ Foothills players have received post-secondary opportunities since 2022. These numbers are the highest of any youth club in Canada. Our specialized programs provide support and guidance for players by filling the gaps in the Canadian soccer development system that other clubs may not. Our programs prepare our athletes for the challenges of post-secondary-level soccer.

Ella Tait: A Journey of Persistence, Passion & Purpose

From the community fields of Evanston to the competitive pitch of League1 Alberta, Ella Tait’s path in soccer has been shaped not by ease but by consistency, resilience and a deep connection to the game and those around her.

"Without Foothills, I wouldn't be where I am today. The club provided me with an amazing training environment that pushed me to be the best I could be. Then, they provided me with my first semi-pro opportunities through the PDL team, which led me to the CPL. Foothills helped me fulfill my dream to play professional football."

Trades Program

The Tier 1 – 3 Generation Phase curriculum includes enrollment in our Trades Program.

The Program comprises six, two-hour sessions that integrate technical, fitness, and performance aspects to holistically develop young athletes.

TechnicalConcentrates on refining players’ skills in critical areas, encompassing 1v1 and 2v2 attacking. Sessions are built around position-specific traits stemming from KPI traits our U13+ teams explore in video analysis. Whether a striker, defender, mid, or goalie, sessions will incorporate individual traits for player success.

PerformanceOur Performance department is dedicated to sculpting well-rounded athletes. This season, we’ve expanded the program to include sessions on essential facets such as nutrition, recovery, and mental skills. Additionally, the Performance team facilitates physical testing, encompassing speed assessments, change of direction evaluations, and strength training.

Physical Fitness: Players complete a battery of tests designed to give a complete picture of an athlete’s fitness level and competence. Tests include:

  • 30m Sprint. Evaluates an athlete’s top speed.
  • Broad Jump. Measures lower body power and strength.
  • 5-10-5 Pro Agility Tet. Assesses a player’s agility and ability to change direction at maximum speed.
  • Yoyo Intermittent Recovery Test. A football/soccer-specific assessment that quantifies a player’s aerobic endurance.

Close to the end of the season, our Performance Department team compiles the data and shares age-specific reports with the Academy. This allows the players to compare their individual score to the general age group.
