Calgary Foothills APDL teams recently traveled to Toronto to compete in the Umbro Showcase & Super Cup, an important development opportunity that allowed players to test themselves against strong opposition from outside Alberta.
The trip included six Foothills APDL teams:
- 2009 Girls,
- 2010 Girls,
- 2011 Girls,
- 2011 Boys,
- 2012 Girls and
- 2012 Boys.
Across the weekend, every team competed hard, embraced the challenge, and represented the Club with pride. Players were tested in high-level tournament environments that pushed them technically, tactically, physically and mentally.
A standout performance came from the 2011 APDL Girls, who advanced all the way to the final after an impressive run through the event. The team pushed a strong LFC Mississauga side in a tightly contested championship match, ultimately falling 2-1.
While the competition was a major focus, the experience extended well beyond the field. Players had the chance to build stronger connections with teammates through shared travel and team activities, including visits to Canada’s Wonderland, K1 Speed and the CN Tower.
Events like the Umbro Showcase & Super Cup are about more than results. They are an important part of the player development journey, giving athletes the opportunity to compete in new environments, apply their principles under pressure, and continue growing as individuals and teams.
The weekend provided valuable lessons, memorable experiences and another important step forward for our APDL players. All six teams should be proud of how they competed, supported one another, and represented the Foothills badge throughout the trip.
