Foothills WFC Travel to Nevada and Arizona to Start 2024 UWS Season

CALGARY, AB—Calgary Foothills WFC (Foothills) is aggressively preparing to kick off the 2024 United Women’s Soccer (UWS) season on a high note. On May 23rd, the team will be in Las Vegas, NV, to compete against Players SC. They will take on FC Arizona two nights later in Gilbert, AZ. Kickoff is at 8 p.m. Calgary time for both games.

In 2023, Foothills tied for first in the West Conference but missed out on a trip to the National finals on goal difference. This year, they are looking to regain their spot at the top of the conference and the league.

Many alumni are returning and joining new faces who will represent Foothills in the UWS. Our roster includes top athletes from USports and NCAA. We will also have several players on the team who have represented Canada at various levels as well as international players.

  • Since 2017, Foothills has WON THREE UWS West Conference Championships and TWO National Silver Medals.
  • In 2019, we were NAMED the UWS Franchise of the Year.
  • In 2022, Lee Tucker was NAMED West Conference Coach of the Year. That was a record-breaking season, with the team winning all its conference games and entering the National Championship with a 100% (10-0-0) winning record. After a dominant 4-1 win in the semi-final, the team came up against the very strong Chicago Mustangs, who came out on top of a close game, winning 2-1.

Head Coach Lee Tucker says the team has something to prove in 2024. “After a strong start to the 2023 season, we unfortunately lost out on winning a 4th conference title to a strong Santa Clarita team. The group is focused on improving on last year’s performance and challenging for a national title later this summer.  We were undefeated against FC Arizona in 2023, and we are looking to repeat that performance this year. Players SC is new to the league, and we want to start a tradition of winning against them this week.”

Game time on May 23rd is 8:00 p.m. Calgary time at the Kellogg Zaher Soccer Complex, West Washington Avenue, Las Vegas, NV. May 25th starts at the same time at the Campo Verde High School in Gilbert, AZ.

Following this tough road trip, the team returns home for their season opener against Santa Clarita on Saturday, June 1st, with a 3.00 pm kick-off at Broadview Park, NW. Tickets for the game can be purchased here.
