CALGARY, AB— Broadview Park was the site of a hard-fought battle Saturday that saw Calgary Foothills WFC (Foothills) fall to UWS West Conference rivals Santa Clarita Blue Heat (Santa Clarita) by a score of 1-0.
Head Coach Lee Tucker had this to say about the June 1 match. “We had a weak first half which opened the door to Santa Clarita to score their only goal. Coming back from a deficit against a tough team like them is difficult. We played much stronger in the second half with several chances but couldn’t capitalize on them. We meet Santa Clarita again on June 16 and will be preparing to make sure we have a better result then.”
Foothills fielded several young players, including Taegan and Keelyn Stewart, who play in the League1 Alberta system. They performed very well, and with a little more experience, we would have seen at least one of their opportunities convert to a goal. Foothills will continue to provide opportunities for up-and-comers like the Stewarts as part of their individual development.
Special thanks to DC Bank, the Game Day sponsor, and Chief Technology Officer Paul Twigg, who read the starting lineup. The team would also like to thank the fans for their support and the Wild Roses Supporters Group, whose march into the stadium provided an incredible energy surge.
Foothills hits the road with games against Los Angeles SC on June 14 and a rematch against Santa Clarita on June 16. Season tickets for all UWS Home games can be purchased here.
