Born in Edmonton, Alberta in 1995, Ajeej “Sark” Sarkaria’s soccer path has stretched across Europe and North America.
He began with FC Edmonton’s academy and local side Edmonton Juventus SC, earning his first professional contract with FC Edmonton in 2013 at just 17. A serious knee injury while abroad in Germany with SV Wehen Wiesbaden’s U23s (2014–15) tested his resolve, but Ajeej responded with resilience, rebuilding his career in Sweden with Fränsta IK and Vasalunds IF, where he found the net consistently in lower divisions.
His breakthrough came back in Canada, first with the University of Alberta Golden Bears, where he became the Canada West all-time points leader, a U SPORTS national champion in 2016, and the Canada West Player of the Year. Ajeej’s clutch scoring and consistent play earned him the reputation of being “the difference-maker” in tight matches. He also thrived with Calgary Foothills FC, winning the 2018 PDL Championship.
That same year, Ajeej’s performances caught the eye of FC Edmonton once again. Drafted 8th overall in the 2018 CPL–U SPORTS Draft, he signed with the club in December. His professional debut came in May 2019 in the fiery Al Classico against Cavalry FC. Over the season, he made 10 league appearances and added his name to the first chapter of Canadian Premier League history.
After stepping away from the CPL, Ajeej returned to the Golden Bears for a fifth year of eligibility in 2021, where he continued to break records and inspire teammates. He was named Athlete of the Week after a derby hat trick against MacEwan.
From academy hopeful to European journeyman, from university star to professional striker, Ajeej Sarkaria’s journey has been anything but straightforward. Yet through injuries, relocations, and challenges, he has carried a constant identity: a proud Edmontonian determined to make his city and his supporters proud.
