Ali Musse’s soccer path has taken him from community pitches in Winnipeg to championship glory with Cavalry FC.

Ali grew up playing with Earl Grey Community Club, Winnipeg South End United, and WSA Winnipeg before joining the Vancouver Whitecaps Academy in 2011. By 2013, he was on Canada’s radar, representing the country at the CONCACAF U-17 Championship and the FIFA U-17 World Cup. Those early experiences on the international stage showcased his skill and ambition.

In college, Ali split time between Tyler Junior College in Texas and the NAIT Ooks in Edmonton, where he became a prolific scorer and earned Player of the Game honors at the 2017 CCAA Nationals. Summers saw him sharpen his game in the PDL, first with WSA Winnipeg, then with the Whitecaps U-23, and later with Calgary Foothills. His 2018 season with Calgary Foothills was historic — he scored decisive goals in both the semifinal and final as the club captured the PDL Championship.

His professional breakthrough came in 2019 when he signed for his hometown club Valour FC in the inaugural Canadian Premier League season. “It’s something that you grow up dreaming about… but to do it in your hometown is just something amazing,” he reflected on the signing. Musse marked the occasion with a goal in one of the league’s early derbies against FC Edmonton.

A brief stint in Germany with 1. FCA Darmstadt in 2020–21 gave him a taste of European football, but his return to Canada in 2021 proved pivotal. Signing with Cavalry FC, Ali quickly became a central figure under head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. Ali delivered — dazzling with his creativity, scoring clutch goals, and driving Cavalry’s attack.

By 2023, his peers across the CPL recognized his impact, voting him Players’ Player of the Year. His performances helped Cavalry win the regular-season Shield in 2023 and culminated in CPL Championship glory in 2024. Along the way, he provided unforgettable moments, from a match-winning strike against Valour to a stunning solo goal.

Internationally, Ali Musse switched allegiance to his country of birth, Somalia, debuting at the 2019 CECAFA Cup. His decision reflected pride in his roots and a chance to inspire Somali youth through football.
