Calgary native Alix Bruch soccer story took shape at St. Francis Xavier University (StFX) in Nova Scotia, where she patrolled midfield for the X-Women across five U SPORTS seasons (2010-2013, 2016). By her fifth year she had become the team’s midfield general and MVP, guiding StFX to the 2016 Atlantic University Sport (AUS) Championship.
During the summer of 2017 she joined Calgary Foothills WFC in United Women’s Soccer, keeping sharp against elite amateur competition while finishing her degree. That same year an extraordinary opportunity arose: a professional contract with ŽFK Spartak Subotica, Serbia’s powerhouse women’s club. Signing in August 2017, Alix stepped directly into the UEFA Women’s Champions League, representing Spartak in qualifying matches and league play. With that move she became the first female AUS player to compete professionally and play in the UWCL.
Reflecting later on her leap to Europe, Alix admitted it was both exhilarating and daunting. “For a long time, we had nothing really to aspire to in Canada… and not every player wants to go overseas,” she told The Coast, underlining why she took the plunge. Her determination proved she could adapt to different cultures and compete at the highest levels available to Canadian women at the time.
In 2025, she was named the Sporting Director of the Calgary Wild FC. On LinkedIn, she celebrated Canada’s first women’s pro game in the Northern Super League, writing, “The stage is set for the first ever professional women’s soccer game in Canada,” a nod to her own understanding of what a homegrown league would have meant to her generation.
