Carlos Patiño was born in Colombia and raised in Canada from the age of 10. In 2015, Carlos broke into senior men’s soccer with the Kitsap Pumas of the USL PDL, scoring twice in ten appearances and helping the team secure a Northwest Division crown. His performances earned him a professional contract with Seattle Sounders FC 2 (USL Championship) later that year. He made his debut on September 5, 2015, against the Austin Aztex, and across two seasons racked up 27 league appearances.

Seeking new challenges, Carlos ventured abroad in 2017, signing for Vänersborgs IF in Sweden’s Division 2. Though a brief spell, it broadened his experience before a return to Canada with Calgary Foothills in 2018. That season became a career highlight: Calgary Foothills captured the USL PDL Championship, and Carlos was instrumental in midfield, even landing a PDL Conference Team of the Week nod in July.

His next step came with history. In January 2019, Cavalry FC of the newly formed Canadian Premier League announced Carlos as one of its inaugural signings. His season included 11 league appearances and a part in Cavalry’s remarkable Canadian Championship run, where the club shocked the country by eliminating the Vancouver Whitecaps—the first CPL side ever to defeat an MLS team. Cavalry also swept both the Spring and Fall 2019 titles, with Carlos contributing to that remarkable campaign.

After leaving Cavalry, Carlos shifted his focus to education and returned to the pitch with the University of Alberta Golden Bears in 2021. His inclusion underscored his ongoing commitment to the game, bridging professional experience with the U Sports system.

Throughout his journey, Carlos has been praised by coaches and teammates for his intelligence and adaptability. Cavalry head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. noted the value of Calgary Foothills alumni like Carlos, who brought cohesion and professionalism to Cavalry’s launch.

Beyond the pitch, Carlos Patiño has remained connected to the game through coaching and mentorship, sharing his knowledge with younger players across Alberta. His Instagram, @carlospcoaching, highlights that transition: from competitor to teacher, offering drills, guidance, and motivation for the next generation.
