Cory Bent built his reputation as a dynamic winger through a series of determined steps across England’s lower leagues, Canadian university soccer, and the Canadian Premier League.
Cory started in football with Manchester United’s U-8 program before he advanced to Preston North End’s academy and then AFC Fylde. He debuted for Fylde’s senior side in December 2014 and spent 2015–2016 gaining critical first-team minutes with Clitheroe (loan), Lancaster City, and Longridge Town, a demanding apprenticeship in the English non-league system that toughened his game.
Seeking new opportunities, Cory crossed the Atlantic in 2016 to join Cape Breton University (CBU) Capers in Nova Scotia. Over four seasons, he became one of U SPORTS’ most feared attackers: 24 goals in 46 matches, 2017 U SPORTS Championship MVP, and multiple All-Canadian and AUS honours. He led CBU to its first-ever national title in 2017, cementing his legacy as a Capers legend.
Cory honed his craft in summer leagues as well scoring for Victoria Highlanders (2018) and Calgary Foothills (2019) before the HFX Wanderers FC made him the first overall pick of the 2019 CPL–U SPORTS Draft.
In 2020 Cory signed his first professional contract with HFX. “It’s a feeling of relief and gratitude… I’ve now been able to achieve a dream of turning professional and I’m just grateful to represent the East Coast again,” he said at the time. Across three seasons, he logged 47 Canadian Premier League appearances, scored three goals, and produced some of the Wanderers’ most electric moments, including a Canadian Championship goal versus CF Montréal in September 2021.
After his time in the Canadian Premier League with HFX Wanderers FC, Cory Bent remained active in Nova Scotia’s soccer community, continuing to play with Suburban FC while also stepping into coaching. Public records list him with Suburban’s senior men’s side and as an assistant coach within the club’s academy environment, reflecting the next phase of a career that has combined professional experience with mentorship and player development.
