Lauren Houghton built an outstanding soccer career in Calgary and beyond, progressing from the Foothills pathway to university, semi-professional and professional soccer before moving into coaching and player development.
A goalkeeper, Lauren played with Calgary Foothills WFC in the United Women’s Soccer league while also competing for the University of Calgary Dinos.
Her university career became one of the most accomplished in Canada West history. Lauren earned numerous conference honours, including Canada West First and Second Team All-Star selections, and was named a U SPORTS Second Team All-Canadian in 2018. She was also named an Academic All-Canadian while studying at the University of Calgary’s Werklund School of Education.
Lauren took her career overseas with UMF Grindavík in Iceland before returning to Calgary and joining Calgary Blizzard including contributing to championship-winning seasons.
After serving as goalkeeper coach with the University of Calgary women’s soccer program in 2024, Lauren returned to the Dinos as a player in 2025, several years after her previous university season.In September 2025, Lauren recorded her 35th career Canada West shutout, setting a new conference record.
Lauren has continued to give back to the game through coaching and player development. She has coached within Calgary Blizzard’s youth system and is part of the club’s senior women’s technical staff.
From Foothills to university soccer, professional competition overseas and now coaching the next generation, Lauren Houghton’s career reflects both high-level achievement and a lasting commitment to the Calgary soccer community.
