Born in Calgary, Alberta in 2004, Max Piepgrass quickly emerged as one of the Canadian Premier League’s most promising young midfielders, balancing his growth in professional soccer with his academic career. His journey reflects a steady climb through Calgary’s development system, university soccer, and now regular contributions with Cavalry FC.

Max’ formative years were spent with Calgary Foothills, where he captained youth sides and earned recognition as a strong passer and leader in midfield. In 2019, he represented Team Alberta at the Western Canada Summer Games, further building his reputation as one of the province’s brightest prospects. By 2021, his potential was recognized by Cavalry FC, who signed him to a developmental contract. He made his professional debut on August 11, 2021 against Pacific FC.

While continuing to train with Cavalry, Max enrolled at Cape Breton University (CBU) and joined the Capers in 2022. At CBU he became a standout, earning Player of the Game nods and scoring highlight-reel goals that regularly featured on the program’s social media. His performances earned him a call-up to Canada’s U-20 camp in 2022, marking an important milestone in his development.

He continued to bridge both worlds through the U SPORTS-CPL draft pathway, rejoining Cavalry FC on short-term and developmental deals while still representing CBU. In 2024, he played with Calgary Foothills during the League1 Alberta exhibition series before another U SPORTS stint with Cavalry. By 2025, his persistence paid off: he scored his first senior goal for Cavalry in the Canadian Championship, a powerful strike in a 6–0 win over Edmonton Scottish.

Cavalry FC head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. was quick to highlight his growth: “Max has played a really important role… He shows the value of patience and perseverance. His ability to connect the play, range of pass and cover ground defensively are great assets.”

Max Piepgrass embodies the modern Canadian soccer pathway: blending university sport and professional opportunities, and proving that patience and persistence can open doors to the highest levels of the game.
