Born in The Hague in 1998, Mijke Roelfsema’s soccer journey has carried her to professional stages across Europe and North America. A left-footed central defender, she was known early for her composure and leadership, rising through VV Schoonhoven’s boys’ teams before joining the ADO Den Haag academy. By 16, she was making appearances for the Eredivisie side’s first team, helping them capture the KNVB Cup and earning selection to the Netherlands U17 and U19 squads.

Seeking the balance of academics and elite sport, Mijke crossed the Atlantic in 2017, joining Boston College, where she made 36 appearances over two seasons and scored her first NCAA goal against Boston University. Her move paid off. At Rice University, she blossomed into one of the nation’s best defenders, guiding the Owls to a Conference USA championship and being named C-USA Defender of the Year (2021) as well as a United Soccer Coaches First-Team All-American. She then moved to Calgary where she joined the Calgary Foothills WFC for the 2021 United Women’s Soccer League season.

Her professional career launched in 2022 with Apollon Ladies in Cyprus, where she lifted the Cyprus Cup and tasted Champions League football. From there, she joined AaB Fodbold in Denmark’s Kvindeliga, starting 14 matches in her debut half-season and twice being named Player of the Round. In 2024, she signed with Treaty United in Ireland.

In 2025, Mijke embarked on a new adventure, signing with Calgary Wild FC in the inaugural season of Canada’s Northern Super League. The club welcomed her as “a player with over a decade of top-level experience,” and in her own words, she embraced the opportunity: “Being with Calgary Wild FC means having the opportunity to inspire change and to be part of the growth of women’s soccer in Canada.”

Mijke Roelfsema represents a generation of players who see soccer not only as a career but as a vehicle for education, empowerment, and growth. Whether marshaling a back line in Europe, inspiring younger players in Canada, or pursuing her academic and professional goals, she continues to prove that her journey is as global as it is impactful.
