Mitch Piraux was born in Calgary in 1995 and grew up within one of Canada’s most established development pathways, progressing from Calgary Foothills to the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency program. His rise through the youth system culminated in appearances for Canada’s U-15 national team in 2010, where he earned two international caps and a taste of representing his country.

Mitche’s early promise took him from the Foothills Rapids to the Whitecaps Academy, where he refined his game as a central midfielder. By 2014, he was competing with the Whitecaps U-23 side in the PDL, making eight appearances. A year later, he stepped into the professional ranks with Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2) in the USL Championship. He made his debut on March 29, 2015 against Seattle Sounders FC 2, and across the 2015–16 seasons logged ten USL appearances, starting in five matches before an injury curtailed his rookie campaign.

After his time in the USL, Mitch chose to balance academics and sport by enrolling at the University of British Columbia, where he joined the UBC Thunderbirds in 2018. His maturity and professional experience provided stability in midfield, and he became a regular through the 2020–21 season. One of his standout moments came in the Canada West playoffs of October 2021, when his well-placed corner kick sparked UBC’s late equalizer in a dramatic comeback match.

Mitch Piraux’s journey is emblematic of Canada’s evolving soccer system: from grassroots at Calgary Foothills, to professional minutes with the Whitecaps, to leadership in U SPORTS competition. Media outlets and fans who followed his WFC2 tenure often highlighted his technical ability and composure.
