Montana Leonard is a Surrey, B.C. native who sharpened her skills with Surrey United and Calgary Foothills. She rose to prominence with the University of Calgary Dinos, where she became one of the most decorated players in program history.
Montana’s final season with the Dinos in 2021 was nothing short of historic. She scored 17 goals in just 12 matches, setting a new Canada West single-season record while also becoming Calgary’s all-time leading scorer. The performance earned her the Chantal Navert Memorial Award as U SPORTS Women’s Soccer Player of the Year, the Canada West Player of the Year title, and the Canada West Female Athlete of the Year award for 2021–22.
In 2022, Montana signed her first professional contract with Launceston United SC in Tasmania, Australia. Local media hailed her as a “marquee signing,” and her versatility and toughness quickly drew praise. Even after suffering ACL injuries, she remained undeterred, stepping into a coaching role in 2024 before returning to the pitch with a vengeance in 2025. In her comeback match that March, she scored twice in 15 minutes, a reminder of the instincts that once made her Canada’s top university striker.
Her story resonates beyond statistics. She has spoken about wanting to inspire the next generation: “If I can inspire anyone… I’d encourage everyone to take all those opportunities because… it’s changed my life here.” That message carries extra weight after her return from injury setbacks, showing young players that resilience can be just as important as raw talent.
Media recognition has followed her every step — from U SPORTS and Canada West features celebrating her record-breaking feats, to Australian outlets documenting her transition abroad and triumphant return. Fans in Tasmania now cheer as passionately as those who once filled the Dinos’ stands, proof that Leonard’s game travels as far as her determination.
Today, whether she’s leading on the pitch or guiding teammates from the sideline, Montana Leonard embodies the qualities that define a true professional: skill, humility, perseverance, and an unrelenting love of the game.
