Sarah Kinzner’s soccer career has spanned youth, collegiate, professional, and international levels, marking her as one of Calgary’s standout midfielders of the past decade.
Her early steps came through Calgary Foothills and Alberta provincial teams, where she established herself as a creative midfielder with vision and drive. At Bishop Grandin High School, she was recognized as Calgary’s female soccer player of the year, foreshadowing a future that would soon carry her onto the international stage.
By 2013, Sarah was wearing the maple leaf with distinction. With Canada’s U-17 women’s national team, she helped secure a Concacaf silver medal and later played at the 2014 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica, where she scored a memorable goal against Venezuela in the quarterfinals. The following year, she was again a key contributor at the Concacaf U-20 Championship, where Canada earned silver, and she represented her country at the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup on home soil. She was also part of Canada’s pool for the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games, further highlighting her international pedigree. Reflecting on those opportunities, she said, “Everyone’s super excited and so proud to represent our country and do so well… if we stick to the game plan we’ll continue to greatness.”
Her collegiate career at the University of Colorado (2014–2018) cemented her reputation as a reliable two-way midfielder. She earned Pac-12 All-Freshman Team honours in 2015 and was a three-time Pac-12 All-Academic selection, balancing athletic excellence with classroom achievement.
After graduation, Sarah returned to Foothills WFC, competing in the United Women’s Soccer (UWS) league. She played an important role in the club’s run to the 2019 national semifinals, before making the leap to Europe in 2020 with Ferencvárosi TC (FTC), Hungary’s most decorated women’s club. Signing with FTC gave her the opportunity to play at the top level in Hungary, with a club regularly competing in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
By 2024, she was back in Calgary with Foothills WFC and also among the local talents celebrated at the launch of the Northern Super League. Speaking at the event, she captured the significance of the moment: “The launch of the Northern Super League will create the opportunity for Canadian women to live out their dreams and compete at the top level in front of their friends and family, right here in Canada.”
Across her journey, Sarah Kinzer has been recognized not only for her technical quality but also for her role as a trailblazer. Her career reflects the growing landscape of opportunities for Canadian women in soccer and serves as inspiration for the next generation of players.
