Sean Melvin was born in Victoria, B.C. in 1994. He grew up in the local Gordon Head and Victoria United systems before joining the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency program in 2010. His talent between the posts soon earned him a scholarship at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where he started 43 matches, posted 11 clean sheets, and backstopped the Seahawks to their first NCAA tournament win.
During the summers, he gained further experience in the PDL with Whitecaps U-23 and Calgary Foothills. By 2016, his professional career began in earnest with Whitecaps FC 2 in the USL. After two seasons and a short-term Canadian Championship call-up, Sean moved to the Whitecaps’ new affiliate Fresno FC in 2018, only to be rewarded days later with a dream move — a Major League Soccer Homegrown contract with the Whitecaps.
Looking for minutes, Melvin transferred to the Colorado Springs Switchbacks of the USL in 2020, where he established himself as a starter, making 35 appearances across two seasons. That form earned him a return to Canada in 2022 with Atlético Ottawa. As a veteran goalkeeper, he helped guide the capital club to its first-ever Canadian Premier League regular season title in 2022, providing leadership and stability from the back.
In 2024, the circle completed when Pacific FC announced Melvin’s signing to a two-year deal with a 2026 option, bringing the Victoria-born keeper back to Vancouver Island. Sean quickly delivered on the pitch, producing highlight-reel saves, earning CPL Team of the Week selections, and a “Performance of the Match” nod after an eight-save outing.
Internationally, Sean Melvin’s journey also includes a proud Canadian cap. He debuted for the men’s national team in January 2017 in a friendly against Bermuda, fulfilling a long-held dream.
