Born in Calgary in 2007, Taegan Stewart has made her mark on Canadian soccer, rising quickly through youth academies and international pathways to become one of the youngest professional players in to play in the Northern Super League.
Her journey began with grassroots soccer at Suburban FC in Halifax, then moved back to Calgary, where she joined Calgary Foothills‘ youth program. In 2022, she and her twin sister Keelyn were selected to join the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Girls Elite Academy, one of the most prestigious player-development environments in the country. Competing in League1 BC, Taegan helped the Whitecaps capture the 2023 League1 BC title and then go on to win the Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship, the first national title for League1 women’s clubs in Canada.
Internationally, Taegan has represented two nations. With Canada’s U-15 team in 2022, she helped earn a silver medal at the Concacaf U-15 Championship, contributing directly in the attack against Jamaica. Later, through her Welsh heritage, she was called up to the Wales U-19 national team in 2024, earning minutes in European friendlies.
In 2024, Taegan gained senior amateur experience with ASA High Performance in League1 Alberta before her dream became reality: signing her first professional contract with Calgary Wild FC in January 2025. At just 17 years old, she and Keelyn were announced together as the youngest professional signings in the new league, a moment highlighted by Canadian outlets as a landmark for women’s soccer in the country.
Taegan wasted no time making an impact. Wearing the No. 30 shirt, she made her professional debut in Wild’s inaugural NSL match. Just weeks later, on June 5, 2025, she scored her first professional goal in a thrilling 3–2 win over Halifax.
Off the field, Taegan has also embraced the opportunity to give back to the next generation. Fresh off the Calgary Wild playing field, she and Keelyn returned to Calgary Foothills during their 2025/2026 off-season to coach players in the club’s U9 and U10 age groups. Reflecting on why they came back, they shared: “We came back to coach because of how much support we’ve received from the coaches and staff at the club. We’re so happy to get involved to help inspire and encourage the next generation of players. Seeing the impact we have, as Wild players, and the kids’ passion for the game first-hand has been amazing, and we love helping grow the passion and love for the game here in Calgary.” Their presence around the club speaks not only to their talent as players but also to their commitment to helping grow the game in their community.
Taegan and Keelyn were also recently recognized by the Calgary Herald in its annual list of 20 Compelling Calgarians, an honour that reflects the influence they are already having both on and off the pitch.
Taegan Stewart has proved herself as a player with the talent, adaptability, and vision to become a leading figure in the next chapter of Canadian women’s soccer.
