Greg de Carnys is the Technical Director at Calgary Foothills Soccer Club, where he leads the club’s football philosophy, coaching standards, and long-term player development pathway. Working closely with coaches across every phase of the club, Greg helps ensure Foothills players benefit from a consistent development environment from Grassroots soccer through to high-performance and senior programs.

Greg brings extensive experience from elite academy environments in England and internationally. He spent eight years at West Ham United F.C. as Head of Academy Performance and was a key member of the club’s Academy Management Team. During that time the academy successfully completed two Category One Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) audits, the highest classification in English academy football.

While working in the Development Phase at West Ham, Greg coached 22 players who progressed to the English Premier League with a combined transfer market value exceeding €160 million. Among those players are several who have become leading figures in professional football, including:

  • Declan Rice – Arsenal FC and England National Team Captain
  • Josh Cullen – Burnley FC Captain and Republic of Ireland International
  • Toni Martínez – Forward, Deportivo Alavés

Greg also led Individual Development Plans (IDPs) for multiple academy players progressing through the system, helping guide their technical, tactical, physical, and personal development toward professional and international football. In addition to his academy leadership roles, he also served as Head Coach of West Ham United Women’s Senior Team.

Greg’s international résumé includes leadership roles as Academy Director at FC Košice in Slovakia and Academy Manager at Visakha FC in Cambodia, where he contributed to the club’s long-term player development strategy. He later worked as an Elite Coaching Consultant with GIBPRO in Gibraltar, designing continuing professional development programs for coaches and individual development camps for academy players.

Across these environments, Greg has managed and mentored staff and players at every stage of the pathway. He has supported the development of players who have gone on to compete in the English Premier League, LaLiga, and the Bundesliga, and more recently the Northern Super League and Canadian Premier League.

At Foothills, Greg provides technical leadership while remaining closely involved in key initiatives across the club. He works with coaches to maintain a player-centred development philosophy that balances high standards with a positive learning environment.

Greg also plays an active role in Foothills’ Women in Sport initiatives, including the TELUS She CAN Coach program, helping create more opportunities for girls and women to play, coach, and lead within the game.
