Foothills’ new mascot officially has a name!
Footy was chosen from more than 300 submissions and a final round of voting by Foothills families, players, supporters, and fans. Thank you to everyone who submitted ideas and voted on social media.
From Concept to Club Character
Footy’s journey began with a simple idea: how could Foothills create even more energy, connection, and memorable moments for the children and families we serve?
From there, the Club explored several mascot concepts before landing on a bear, a strong and memorable character connected to the foothills and mountain region, and one that could appeal to players of all ages.

Technical Director Greg de Carnys says the bear was a natural fit. “We wanted a mascot that reflected our Club, our region, and our values. The bear felt strong, memorable, and connected to who we are at Foothills. I spoke with Calgary-based Street Characters, the company behind mascot costumes and characters including the New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams, Energizer, A&W, the Calgary Flames, and the Calgary Stampede. They nailed our vision.”
Bringing the Foothills Spirit to Life
The final design brings together the spirit of the Club with a character built to create joy, pride, and a sense of belonging. Whether greeting young players at Grassroots events, cheering alongside families at matchdays, visiting community events, or helping celebrate special Club moments, Footy will be there to help bring the Foothills experience to life.

Club Marketing Director, Julia Massie, explains the mascot gives Foothills another way to connect with members and the communities the Club serves. “This is about more than having a mascot at events. We hope that Footy will give children something to connect with, help families feel part of the Club, and create another visible symbol of Foothills pride in our communities.”
Where You’ll See Footy
You will see our furry friend at Grassroots festivals, community events, special Club celebrations, Foothills matchdays, and other opportunities where players and families come together. Footy will help create memorable first impressions for young players, add excitement to events, and strengthen the Club culture that connects Foothills members of all ages.

And what does Footy have to say about all of this? “Rawr! I can’t wait to meet everyone, cheer on Foothills, and give out lots of high-fives!”
