Foothills Looks to Strengthen Positions in League1 with Games Against Calgary Rangers

CALGARY, AB – Foothills FC and WFC return to the pitch on Tuesday, May 27, for an important League1 Alberta doubleheader against Calgary Rangers at Webber Athletic Park. These matchups promise to bring intensity and high-quality football.

WFC vs. Calgary Rangers – 5:00 p.m. Kickoff

WFC enters Tuesday’s contest sitting atop the women’s table with 9 points. While the Rangers sit at the bottom of the standings, Head Coach Lee Tucker warns against underestimating the opposition. The Rangers roster has a strong connection to Foothills with former players Layla Tarraf and Isabella Di Palma (both of whom scored in their recent win against Calgary Blizzard), Jaden Tomaszeski, and Lucy Mundy.

Calgary Rangers are a much better team than their league position suggests,” said Tucker. “They’re organized, athletic, and dangerous in transition. We’ll need to be sharp in and out of possession. For us, the focus remains on improving our consistency and raising our game.”

The upcoming match is expected to feature Kendall Showers’ debut for WFC. Showers is the 2024 League1 Alberta Golden Boot winner, having led the league with nine goals while playing for Callies United. Following that standout performance, she signed with OFI Crete W.F.C., a top-tier club in Greece’s A Division, where she gained valuable international experience. Her return to Canadian soccer brings a wealth of talent and experience, promising to impact the WFC squad significantly.

FC vs. Calgary Rangers – 7:30 p.m. Kickoff

On the men’s side, Tuesday’s match is significant as the team looks to regain its forward progress and move up the leader board after forfeiting a previous Callies United game and losing three points as a result. The Foothills team is currently tied with Rangers in the 3rd spot, having played five games to Rangers’ four.

The Rangers’ men’s team also has a contingent of former Foothills players, including Skyler Rogers, Jonathan Walter, Abel Nesibu, and Kyle Boell. They are a strong group given that most of the roster play together at Mount Royal University under the leadership of former Foothills coach Rory Keys.

Rangers are a strong, well-coached side,” said FC Head Coach Connor Brady. “They’ve got pace, technical quality, and real grit. We’ll need to control the tempo and stay focused in key moments. It’s about finishing our chances and managing results. These are the matches that test a team’s character.”
