Foothills FC Ready for Friday Night Re-Match Against Cavalry FC U21

CALGARY, AB –Calgary Foothills FC returns to action this Friday, July 4, at Broadview Park in Calgary, hosting Cavalry FC U21 in League1 Alberta play. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

FC comes into the match on the back of a thrilling 1-0 victory over league leaders Edmonton BTB last Friday. Earlier this season, FC edged Cavalry 1-0 in an intense matchup, and head coach Connor Brady knows Cavalry remains a serious threat.

“They are the best young talent in the province, and their results against mature quality teams have proven that. They have done well to represent the best youth in Alberta, and we need to be prepared,” Brady said. “We’ve seen first-hand how dangerous they can be, and they’ve got players who know our club and our culture well. We’re excited for the challenge and look forward to putting on a great performance in front of our supporters.”

The Cavalry squad features some of Alberta’s top young players, many with ties to Foothills, including Jax Wheeldon, current Foothills APDL 09 Boys player and son of former Foothills Technical Director and Cavalry FC head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. The connections don’t stop there, with Foothills alumni James McGlinchey, John Paul Walter, and Michael Harms among those recently suiting up for the Cavalry side. The squad has also seen call-ups from Cavalry FC’s Canadian Premier League roster, including Chanan Chanda and Harms

The FC squad boasts strong representation at the professional draft level, featuring former Cavalry FC CPL draft picks Caden Rogozinski (2024) and Harvey Hughes (2025), along with Max Bodurtha, a 2024 CPL draft selection by the Halifax Wanderers.

Foothills Women Host Calgary Wild FC U21 in Exhibition Match

Also Friday, our WFC women’s side will host an exhibition match against Calgary Wild FC U21 at Broadview Park. That squad, too, features numerous Foothills alumni and current players.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for our group to continue building chemistry and showcase the quality coming through the Foothills pathway,” said Head Coach Lee Tucker. “There’s always extra motivation playing against players we know so well, and we’re looking forward to another great evening of soccer. The game also presents an opportunity for us to focus on some of the details we need as we approach the final stretch of the season. The group is very competitive internally and there will be a chance for players to show how key they can be in supporting the team to achieve its goals.

Grace Hannaford has been in exceptional form this season  alongside attacking talent such as Avril Jamieson and Rachel Barlow. We are excited to see what the group can do.
