CALGARY, AB: July 18, 2024 –
Calgary Foothills Men’s (FC) and Women’s (WFC) teams host Edmonton BTB (BTB) in League1 Alberta action this Friday, July 19 at Calgary’s Macron Performance Centre. WFC game time is 5:00 p.m. FC hit the pitch at 7:45 p.m.
WFC Head Coach Colin Mackay has his eyes on the league championship. “As we approach the last week of the season, our position in the league table reflects the hard work and dedication that each player has put in to get us past our slow start earlier this year. This upcoming game is pivotal; securing all three points on Friday not only boosts our position but also puts us in a strong contender position for the league championship final.”
Mackay credits the Club’s Girls Academy with providing the foundation for the strong WFC squad. “The team we’ve fielded this year is a reflection of the depth and resilience of our Foothills women’s program. Many times, we have provided opportunities for our Academy players to participate in League1 and that experience has been invaluable to them. In last Sunday’s match, 12 of our 14 players were from the Academy, with many never having played at this level before. We are making some roster upgrades for this game to hopefully result in our getting to the final match on July 26th.”
On the FC side, Head Coach Marc McLaren is optimistic given his team’s recent performance. “Last time out versus BTB we came away with our first victory of the season with a 2-0 win, and we’ll be looking to do the same Friday night. We go into this game knowing that to have any chance of retaining our title nothing less than a win will do. This is our most important game of the year. We’ve done exceptionally well to be in this position given our start to the season, and I am super proud of the team for turning things around.”
Match times for the July 19 games are 5:00 p.m. for WFC and 7:45 p.m. for FC at the Macron Performance Centre, 111 Exploration Avenue SE, Calgary, Alberta. Get your tickets at the gate.
