Canada Soccer has announced the club’s participating in this year’s (the program’s second) TELUS She CAN Coach season and Foothills is proud to be one of the 15 from Alberta and 54 in Canada that will be involved. Foothills was also involved in the program’s inaugural year.

Greg de Carnys, Foothills Girls Academy Manager, and Hannah Ritchie, the Club’s Grassroots Coordinator, attended the kickoff meeting on September 26.

TELUS She CAN Coach will host a workshop for its participants at Foothills’ Macron Performance Centre this fall. More details will be available soon. Foothills is proud to support this important program, which advances gender equality in soccer by reducing the barriers of entry for women to coach. Women in Sport

Our Women in Sport program aims to stem the downward trend toward fewer women getting involved in sports in any capacity, including as players, coaches, and managers. We are focused on getting more girls to join soccer and stay involved in “soccer for life.” Our program includes events that create camaraderie, like our viewing parties, manager and coach workshops, and other activities that bring together female players, coaches, managers, and trainers from across the Club. We also have initiatives that allow our older players to connect with our younger girls by leading their practices, sharing stories, and inspiring each other throughout the process. This develops leadership and mentorship skills. 

Coach Mentorship and Development

The Club is big on supporting our coaches. We recognize the commitment our coaches make and the important roles they play in our players’ lives on and off the pitch. Along with TELUS She Can Coach, we invest in other initiatives to help them thrive in and ENJOY their coaching experience. Watch for more information about a Club Coach Clinic coming soon.

Manager Mentorship and Development

Our team managers play a vital role in connecting the players and coaching staff. They are a critical part of our Club’s success, and we are dedicated to developing and mentoring them as well. Once the indoor season is underway, a team manager meeting and workshop will happen. We will leverage the learnings from the TELUS She CAN Coach initiative for our managers as well and have regular social connections with them throughout the season.
