CALGARY, AB – Foothills WFC and FC returned to winning ways Tuesday night at Broadview Park, with the women grinding out a 1-0 win in a hard-fought battle and the men producing a dominant 6-0 performance. Both teams showed resolve and quality in crucial matchups against Calgary Villains, reclaiming ground in the League1 Alberta standings.
WFC 1 – 0 Calgary Villains
WFC climbed back to the top of the table with a gritty 1-0 win over a well-organized Villains side. The match was tightly contested, with the Villains defending well. Despite creating chances throughout the match, it wasn’t until late in the game that substitute Brooklyn Blake broke the deadlock. Her burst of energy and sharp finish sealed all three points for the home side.
“It was a difficult game,” said Head Coach Lee Tucker. “Villains were disciplined and worked hard, and while we did create chances, we didn’t capitalize, which is still something we need to work on. Brooklyn came on and gave us exactly what we needed, a spark, intensity, and ultimately, the winning goal.”
We introduced GK Leah Parsons into the group yesterday. Leah came into the game at halftime, and she and Sarah Bach contributed well to another shutout for the team. Leah has represented Canada at the U17 level and is another quality addition to the team.
FC 6 – 0 Calgary Villains
FC delivered a statement win on Tuesday, with a commanding 6-0 result. A four-goal first half put the game out of reach early, with Jamie Nicholson, Diego Reveco, Robert Woodroffe-Browne, and Harvey Hughes all finding the net before the break.
The second half saw FC control the pace with sharp possession and composure. Additional goals from Senay Haile and Emannuele Dan-Adokiene rounded out the victory. The team was professional and disciplined in its approach. Having GK Sam Diltz back in goal, providing leadership to the backline, was a huge boost. Credit to Sam and the back four for shutting out what can be a creative and dynamic attack from the Villains.
“This was a total team effort,” said Head Coach Connor Brady. “Tuesday night showed how our commitment to improving is starting to pay off. We executed well, created chances, and most importantly, everyone contributed. It was great to see so many different players on the scoresheet. Sam Diltz had a strong performance and made a couple of key saves early and big saves later in the second half to earn a clean sheet. With Sam back there, there is a real sense of leadership. We’re a threat moving forward, and performances like these build confidence within the group.”
The result places FC firmly in the middle of a very competitive League1 Alberta table, now just four points off top spot.
