CALGARY, AB—As they move to own the UWS West Conference in 2024 and earn a spot in the National Championship, Calgary Foothills WFC (Foothills) was victorious in their matches against Players SC and FC Arizona in the season’s first road trip. Both games were shutouts for the Calgary squad, which won 8-0 and 4-0, respectively.
Foothills dominated league newcomers Players SC on May 23 with a decisive 8-0 victory. Serena Dolan and Kiley Norkus each sank two shots, with one each coming from Anna Hauer, Sarah Kinzner, and Anneke Odinga. Players SC also put one in the net for us. Head Coach Lee Tucker said, “It was great to see us create good goal-scoring opportunities. This is an area we are focused on improving this summer after missing out on winning the West division last year due to goal differential. Tougher tests are coming, starting Saturday against FC Arizona.”
Tucker was right that the May 25 match would be more competitive. Despite that, Foothills was victorious, coming away with its second shutout and a 4-0 win. The team’s youngest player, Reese Kincaid, scored her first goal in the UWS league, impressing fans and her teammates with her ball handling. Andersen Williams put two in the net, and Emma Nicholson added one. “I’m very happy with how the entire team played,” said Tucker. “The team was flying in the first half. In the second, we took control, which allowed for lots of playing minutes for all members.”
Tucker is very pleased with the team’s performance in both outings.
“We have excellent footballers in Alberta and on our team,” he said, naming just a few. “Lindsay Kitson is coming home with two clean sheets; Anneke Odinga is a great attack-minded fullback; our youngest player, Reese Kincaid, played a strong part scoring her first UWS goal; Izzy Monck leads by example in every game; and Jayden Berg is a Foothills kid who throws her all into every game and provides great team structure.”
Following this tough road trip, the team returns home for its season opener against Santa Clarita on Saturday, June 1st, with a 3:00 p.m. kick-off at Broadview Park, NW. This promises to be an exciting match. Tucker and the team encourage everyone to come out to support the team.
Tickets for the June 1st game can be purchased here.
