Santa Clarita, CA – Calgary Foothills WFC [‘Foothills’] have boarded the plane down to California to take on the other top two teams in the West, Los Angeles SC [‘LASC’] (2-3-0) and Santa Clarita Blue Heat [‘SCFC’] (3-1-0). Foothills is looking to carry their momentum of 15 straight regular season wins into this weekend.

Head Coach of Foothills, Lee Tucker, shares, “After a fantastic win last weekend in a back-and-forth match against Santa Clarita Blue Heat we head down to the states for a very difficult double header against Los Angeles Soccer Club (who are coming off the back of a good win against FC Arizona) and the return fixture against Santa Clarita Blue Heat who will be looking for revenge. This is always a challenging trip and the results will go a long way in determining the destination of the Western Conference Championship for this season. The girls are in fantastic form, and we are excited to see that continue this week”.

LASC participates in some of the most prestigious leagues in the United States, such as MLS Next (Men’s Professional), UWS, USYS Elite 64, and the Elite Academy League. The team has added some exciting young players to its 2023 roster, including defender Sam Nieto who will start her university career with UC Irvine in the NCAA, and Kansas City reserve player Kionna Simon. Last time LASC and Foothills met, Foothills took home a 2-1 win.

SCFC has played an important role in developing some of US Women’s Soccer top talent. They are the 2016 and 2021 UWS National Champions and have only lost once this season, 1-0 against Foothills. There are several players, five from the USA and two from Mexico, who played at the U20 Concacaf Championship as well as full internationals Zoe Burns (Canada) and Sydney Vermillion (Armenia) who are a part of the SCFC team. Recently, three SCFC Alumni were named to the US national women’s team for the 2023 FIFA world cup. 

This weekend will be a battle against top talent for Foothills to maintain their top position in the league and secure a spot at the United Women’s Soccer [‘UWS’] national championships.
