CALGARY, AB: July 12, 2025:
Calgary Foothills WFC and FC delivered a pair of commanding victories Friday night at Macron Performance Centre, dispatching the Edmonton Scottish with matching shutouts and sending a clear message as the League1 Alberta playoff race intensifies.
WFC 7 – Scottish 0: Ruthless in Attack, Rock Solid in Defense
WFC continued its quest for the league with a resounding 7-0 win, putting daylight between themselves and second-place Calgary Blizzard, who bumped St. Albert Impact into third.
Kendall Showers led the offensive outburst with an incredible four-goal performance, showcasing her clinical finishing and attacking flair. League-leading scorer Avril Jamieson, who now sits at seven goals this season, subbed in for Showers and immediately found the back of the net. Rachel Barlow and Abby Steen rounded out the scoresheet.
Sarah Bach and the backline delivered yet another clean sheet (their eighth of the season), highlighting the team’s growing confidence and cohesion heading into the final stretch.
“This was an excellent performance,” said Head Coach Lee Tucker. “From our pressing to our ball movement, to our ability to finish chances, everyone stepped up. We’ve been building toward this level of consistency, and it’s a great confidence boost heading into next weekend’s match against BTB Edmonton.”
FC 5 – Scottish 0: Full Team Performance Keeps Squad in Title Hunt
In the men’s game, FC defeated the defending champions with an emphatic 5-0 shutout, maintaining their tie at the top of the standings with Edmonton BTB.
Hafiz Mahjor opened the scoring before Robert Woodroffe-Brown, Amadou Bayo, and Evan Cunningham added two goals to the tally in a relentless second half. Goalkeeper Sam Diltz and his backline earned another clean sheet, their seventh of the season.
Despite a slow start, the squad gained composure, made better use of penetrating runs and passing channels, and capitalized on their chances, ending with an explosive four-goal second half.
“We didn’t start the way we wanted, but I’m proud of how the team regrouped. That’s a sign of maturity,” said Head Coach Connor Brady. “That’s what top teams do. They find their rhythm, and they finish strong. This was another full team effort and another step forward. We’re improving every week.”
