CALGARY, AB –Tuesday night saw two very different matchups for Foothills WFC and FC as they faced off against the Calgary Rangers in League1 Alberta action. The women’s side continued their dominant form with a commanding 6-0 victory, while the men’s team battled hard but fell 2-0 in a challenging contest.
WFC 6 – 0 Calgary Rangers
WFC delivered a comprehensive team performance, defeating the Rangers 6-0 to remain firmly atop the League1 Alberta table. The result also gives the team a significant boost in goal differential.
“It was a dominant performance,” said Head Coach Lee Tucker. “I was especially pleased with the discipline and professionalism the team displayed from start to finish. We’ll keep building toward our next match against the Calgary Blizzard.”
The scoring opened in the first half with goals from Grace Hannaford, who had an outstanding game throughout the 90 minutes, and Kendall Showers in her debut with the squad, giving WFC a 2-0 lead at the break. The second half saw a continued offensive surge with goals from Abby Steen and Isabel Monck. Substitute Avril Jamieson added emphasis to the performance with two quick goals off the bench to seal the 6-0 result. Goalkeeper Sarah Bach earned another clean sheet with a confident showing, while yet another standout performance was delivered by Rebecca Grisdale.
FC 0 – 2 Calgary Rangers
The men’s side came into Tuesday night’s fixture amid the frustration of a recent three-point deduction due to a technical ruling from a previous win. Things didn’t get easier early on, as a red card to starting goalkeeper Sam Diltz placed FC at a disadvantage just minutes into the match.
Despite resilient play and several promising chances, the team trailed 1-0 at the half. The Rangers would add a second late in the match to secure the win. A bright spot in the night was substitute goalkeeper Evan Speaker who made several excellent saves. Speaker is a member of Foothills’ 2008 APDL Boys team. This was his League1 debut and he more than rose to occasion.
Head Coach Connor Brady reflected on the evening. “We’re facing adversity right now and have work to do to regain a stronger position in the league. Going down to ten men early changed the rhythm, but we still controlled stretches of the game. We’ll regroup, learn, and come back sharper. This group has character — and we’ll show it.”

Foothills WFC competed in League1 Alberta in 2023 and 2024 as a development team for the Club’s Pro-Am program, which participated in the United Women’s Soccer League. During this time, our primary focus was on building our athletes’ skills and preparing them for higher levels of competition. Now, as we embrace new opportunities through the Northern Super League (NSL), we are setting our sights on dominating League1 Alberta in 2025. Our athletes are eager to showcase their growth, and we anticipate a strong season, fueled by ambition, talent, and preparation. The Foothills WFC League1 Alberta team is coached by Lee Tucker.
