Calgary Foothills FC Dominates Competition. League1 Alberta Championship Game Set For Calgary, Friday July 28th.

CALGARY, AB – Calgary Foothills FC ended the inaugural League1 Alberta regular season this past Sunday with an impressive 6-0-2 record. The team’s performance throughout the year sets the stage for Friday’s Championship Game against the St. Albert Impact at Calgary’s Broadview Park. Kickoff is set for 7pm.

Head Coach, Jay Wheeldon, isn’t surprised by how his team dominated the competition but knows the Championship game on Friday won’t be easy. “We had no losses this season. The guys’ performance has been first class throughout,” Wheeldon says. “But we can’t take our foot off the gas pedal. This is League 1 Alberta’s first final, and we want to be the team to win it.”

The season’s stand-out players include:
• Captain Tom Field‘s professional experience set the standard and culture on and off the field.
• Moe El Gandour hit high numbers with four goals and five assists in eight games.
• Max Piepgrass led the team in minutes played despite an injury-plagued 2022 season.
• The ever-present Gianmarco Plenzik, in his third season with Foothills FC, has become an integral part of the team.

Wheeldon summarized the July 21st game against Cavalry FC U21 as action-packed, with his Club squeaking out a 2-0 win. He says, “Cavalry is always tough. They had a strong team with a few professionals like Henry and Montgomery playing down, which is what this league is designed for.”

Sunday’s game against Edmonton BTB SC concluded with a 2-2 draw. It was a nail-biter from the first minute. Coming away with a draw kept Foothills FC undefeated in the regular season and leading into the final game.

The Championship Final kicks off at 7pm at Broadview Park, 2005 Broadview Rd NW, Calgary, AB. The livestream can be accessed hereSecure your tickets today.
